Vendors

Black Hills Con is a multi-genre event and we encourage products to be as diverse as the fandoms themselves.  Vendors are welcome to sell commercially licensed merchandise as well as original art and handmade products.

Attendee Policies

Attendee Policies

Please remember this is an all-ages convention.  All attendees, staff, guests, and vendors are expected to follow the Code of Conduct.  Failure to do so may result in expulsion from the event.

Code of Conduct

All attendees must be respectful and courteous to all other attendees, staff, and venue personnel.  Rude, violent, lewd, or harassing behavior is unacceptable.  This includes, but is not limited to, unwanted physical contact, unwanted filming/photography, threats, offensive comments and/or behavior.

If you experience any behavior that you feel is not in accordance with the Code of Conduct, please report it to a staff member immediately.

Badges

All persons 6 years of age and older must purchase a badge to enter the convention area. Badges must be worn and visible at all times.

Minors

Minors are welcome to enjoy the convention. For the safety and security of all, those under the age of 16 must be supervised by an adult in their party at all times. Black Hills Con will not be responsible for unsupervised minors.

Animals

No pets allowed. Comfort, support, anxiety or therapy animals are not allowed.

Properly identified ADA service animals are permitted as required by law.

Clothing/Cosplay

All attendees must wear clothing covering their entire groin, buttocks, nipples, and at least 75% of the breast area. Coverage cannot be sheer, painted on, overly tight, or create the illusion of nudity. Footwear must be worn at all times.

Clothing with obscene language, vulgar, racist, or offensive images will not be allowed.

These rules are gender neutral. If you are unsure if your costume meets these requirements, please contact the staff BEFORE the convention.

Props

Props that may appear potentially dangerous (even if they are not) must be peace-bonded upon entry, at registration, or at time of purchase from a vendor.  Peace-Bonding is an agreement that you will carry your prop safely.

A staff member will attach a brightly colored tie on the item to acknowledge that your item has been reviewed.

Live steel, projectiles, and functioning firearms are prohibited.

Alcohol/Smoking

Alcohol is not permitted within the convention areas before 8pm. Smoking, including vaping/e-cigarettes is only permitted outside.

Photo/Video

Photography and video recording is generally allowed, but please be respectful. If the person you are filming asks you to stop because they do not want to be filmed or photographed, please stop. Please do not block walkways while taking pictures.

Vendors

All vendors are responsible for their own merchandise, applicable taxes, and payroll.  More details in Vendor Contract.

Anyone selling goods or services at BHC who is not a vendor will be removed from the convention and their badge will be revoked.

Vendors or sponsors can hand out information, coupons, flyers, or freebies.  Distributing unsolicited flyers or information of any kind (canvassing) by attendees will not be allowed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Convention?

A Convention (aka con) is an event in which fans of any sort of media can meet with other fans and celebrate their passions together as a community. This includes panels, merchandise, competitions, events, and more. People are also welcomed and somewhat encouraged to dress as their favorite characters in an act called cosplay. All this brings together fans of all types and helps them find like-minded people all within in a fun event.

Why go to a convention?

It's a fun event to share your passions and find other like-minded individuals. It's a great place to make friends, learn more about your favorite stuff, play some games, or maybe even show off your costume!

Do I Have to Register Online?

No. Tickets will also be available at the door for a slightly higher price. Online purchase of a ticket is mainly to make the process quicker for the attendee at a lower price.

Can I Bring Props?

Props that may appear potentially dangerous (even if they are not) must be peace-bonded upon entry, at registration, or at time of purchase from a vendor.  Peace-Bonding is an agreement that you will carry your prop safely. A staff member will attach a brightly colored tie on the item to acknowledge that your item has been reviewed.

Live steel, projectiles, and functioning firearms are prohibited.

Do Volunteers have to buy tickets?

Volunteers will have to take care of their own admission. After a volunteer has completed a 4 hour shift, they will earn a one-day pass to a future BHC event.

Do I Need to be in Costume?

No. You are allowed to wear anything within the limits of the dress code. It is fine to show up in regular clothes as it is to show up in a costume.

Do I Have to Attend Panels?

No. Panels are only one of many reasons that people come to a con. None of the panels or events are mandatory to attend.
